Il titolo stesso del nuovo album “SMITH”, è ispirato al protagonista di “1984” di George Orwell… Winston Smith

Il 18 ottobre esce esclusivamente in formato digitale “Third”, il nuovo attesissimo album dei The Winstons. Pubblicato da Baobab Music e distribuito da Ada Music, sarà disponibile anche in versione vinile a partire da metà novembre.

“Third” rappresenta il risultato di un lungo e complesso viaggio musicale iniziato dopo l’uscita di “Smith” nel 2019.

Durante questi anni, i The Winstons hanno affrontato cambiamenti personali e globali, che si riflettono profondamente nel loro nuovo lavoro. Le registrazioni sono state effettuate tra Londra (presso gli studi di Luke Oldfield), Milano, Roma e Como, caratterizzate da sessioni intense, spesso durate fino a notte fonda, e improvvisazioni che hanno dato vita a momenti di riflessione e puro istinto, portando senza sforzi Enro, Linnon e Rob ad accettare le canzoni per quello che erano.

Dopo una pausa forzata nel 2020, il trio è tornato con nuove idee che si collocano dove vuole l’ascoltatore, tra un passato distante e un prossimo futuro.

I Winstons aprono l’album con la loro Bohemian Rapsody, un brano inizialmente chiamato Medley e poi rinominato “Break The Seal”, considerato il marchio del disco.

In questo pezzo, una piccola orchestra si unisce al terzetto per la registrazione.“Third” arriva come un progetto ricco di sfumature e caratterizzato da nuove sonorità, con composizioni sinfoniche, improvvisazioni brevi e lunghissime, e mini operette sulle quali i Winstons hanno inventato a mano libera, includendo brani come “Check It Out”, scelto per essere la focus track dell’album. In “Third” ci sono dentro amici, persone conosciute, eroi minori, storie immaginarie.

Il missaggio del nuovo lavoro discografico dei Winstons è stato realizzato insieme a Carlo Giardina presso il Back Studio Recording di Milano, mentre Pietro Caramelli si è occupato del mastering, utilizzando due tape per garantire un suono impeccabile. Le grafiche visionarie di Pazzi Design, insieme alle foto di Roberto Covi e alla supervisione speciale di Nina Dell’Era, alle macchine insieme al papà, completano l’opera visiva di “Third”.

THE WINSTONS [EN]

is a power trio, bass, drums, keyboards devoted to psichedelia and the ancestral human cult of anarchy. Their grand temples are not far from the ones on planet Gong, visible over the horizon behind the ruins of old Canterbury the grave of Hugh (Hopper) to the right and Kevin (Ayers) to the left. They navigate over the smoky marshes of prog music. fearless of its dirt and its roots still feeding from where it all came from: Rock’n’roll. It’s a human style (who cares?).
It’s Britannic as much as Hugo Pratt is asian or Morricone Texan’s. The three pillars that hold up the structure are actually one from the north, one from the centre and one from the south of our clumsy italian peninsula, though they sound from a disppeared ALBION. They live the same city that holds a name with many faces and sounds that we’ll avoid to mention, it doesent matter really.
You only need to know that the tall one is called Rob Winston, the moustached one il Linnon Winston and the strange one is Enro Winston.
They used to meet up only to go and get cigarettes, they were already a band we realise now, spiritually already perfect.
