MINIPONY

IT

MINIPONY is an experimental metal project based in Ecuador, influenced by math, breakcore and latin music combining polyrhythmic structures with minimalist guitar riffs and female growls.

Complex grooves along with aggressive and insane vocal lines result in a display of extreme metal in its most brutal form. The project is essentially a blend of thrash, djent, and experimental metal.

In 2013, the group released a self-produced 3-song EP, as well as a self-produced stop-motion music video for the track “MilkWithSilk,” in collaboration with Federico Giammattei, a renowned Italian pho- tographer.

The music video received favorable responses from international artists such as Alejandro Jodorowsky, Jens Kidman (Meshuggah), Justin Preston (The Locust), Trey Spruance (Mr. Bungle, Secret Chiefs 3), among others.

MINIPONY composed and produced their first album with 8 original tracks, and at the beginning of 2017, drummer Carlos Sánchez joined the group, bringing a more powerful sound and elevating their live performances to a more professional level.

In October 2017, they released their debut album IMAGO under the Italian record label Subsound Records. The album is available worldwide through Goodfellas, Cargo, Code7, Phd, Clear Spot, and Cobraside in black-and-white LP, Digipack CD, and digital formats.

The album was launched at the National Variedades Theater in Quito, receiving a positive response from the audience and achieving a sold-out show.

The band subsequently performed at Ecuador’s most important festivals, including QuitoFest 2017, VAQ 2018 (Quito), FestivalFFF 2017/2018 (Ambato), Winchu Festival 2017 (Portoviejo), Fiesta de la Música 2018 (Cuenca), and Rock a la Terraza 2018 (Ambato).

They also embarked on a promotional tour in Italy, receiving positive feedback from both the audience and the European metal scene press, such as Legacy Magazine (DE), Rumore Magazine (ITA), Fireworks Magazine (UK), and notable mentions in Ecuadorian and Latin American media, including El Comercio, El Telégrafo, VICE Latinoamérica, and Headbangers Latinoamérica, among others.

At the beginning of 2018, the band released the music video for their track “Elephants Walking Over Spider Webs” with a major concert at the Ecuadorian Rock Museum 1865, playing to a full house and receiving an enthusiastic response from the audience. This established MINIPONY as one of the most popular bands in the emerging Ecuadorian metal and alternative scene.

Later, MINIPONY recorded their new album titled AJNA at Silver Cord Studios (Brooklyn, NY), the recording studio of the 2017 Grammy-nominated metal band Gojira. They performed at both local and international events, delivering the highest level of execution and visual impact on stage.

After the release of AJNA on 2020, MINIPONY caught the attention of promoters and music festivals in the music scene and have performed in the greatest stages in Latin America

such as Hell and Heaven Open Air (Mexico), Summer Breeze (Brazil), and was selected as opening act for FEAR FACTORY in their Latin American tour on 2022.

MINIPONY is placed now in Latin America as one of the most innovative and interesting bands on the metal scene.

In 2024 MINIPONY was invited to perform as opening act for the Swedish band MESHUGGAH in their first show in Bogota with an amazing response from the crowd.

Later on November 2024, MINIPONY was mentioned in ROLLING STONES MAGAZINE as one of the most interesting bands on the local scene in Ecuador.
